Sigurdardottir, born in Iceland started taking vocal lessons in her hometown, Gardabaer at an early age, until moving to Germany to further her education. At the Hochschule für Musik Würzburg she studied with the world-renowned Soprano, Cheryl Studer. And under her guidens she took her first steps on the big stage, with roles like, “Nella“ from Gianni Schicchi and “Mimi”, from “La Boheme”. Steinunn searched to deepen her education and transferred to the Operaschool at the Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe to study with Christian Elsner and Friedemann Röhlig. During her studies she potrayed the roles of “Rosalinde” From “Die Fledermaus”,“Mother“ in Hänsel and Gretel and “Governess” from “Turn of the screw” by Britten. Since finishing her studies, Steinunn has sung in many productions, including, as “Governess” in “Turn of the Screw” by Britten,“as Lauretta” in “Gianni Schicchi” by Puccini and latest as „Margot“ in „Lustige Witwe“ by Lehár at the Badische Staatstheater in KarlsruheSteinunn has in the past years taken Masterclasses with Barbara Frittoli, Peter Konwitschny, Dorothea Röschmann and Stefan Herheim among others.In 2017 Steinunn was a finalist in the Vox Domini competition and landed second place in the Concerto Augstburg competition in 2016.Through her studies Steinunn was supported by the Richard-Wagner-Verbands Würzburg-Unterfranken e.V., Kulturfons Baden and DAAD.
